George Gombossy is at it again,.
By CtPetLovers Staff
Veteran consumer news journalist George Gombossy, publisher of CtWatchdog.com and former Hartford Courant investigative journalist, is launching a site for animals and their owners. CtPetLovers.com is positioning itself to become the premier pet site that will offer exclusive features and information on how to care for your pet from well-known industry experts.
Channel 8 TV Personality Ann Nyberg leads off the site with her personal story of her new puppy, Henry Watson. CtPetLovers.com/dogs/adoption-spotlight-ann-nyberg/
This web site, which uniquely works closely with its Facebook fan page, is built for Connecticut pet owners to share their stories, tips, and of course, their favorite photos and videos. By simply “liking” CtPetLovers on Facebook (facebook.com/CtPetLovers), pet owners and pet lovers will get a chance interact with the local pet community and share information about how to care for their pets. So if you’re looking for a responsible pet sitter or great vet, our Facebook site could help you find both.
It will also have photo contests on our Facebook site along with caption contests. The winners will be shown on CtPetLovers.com.
In addition to offering a platform for owners to share fun photos and stories, CtPetLover.com will report on critical pet consumer news, including important announcements from Connecticut pet shelters and pet adoption agencies.
Connecticut-based pet experts will have regular blogs on the site as well, helping make CtPetLovers.com an important source of information regarding pets.
The concept of developing a site geared toward Connecticut pets started a few years ago. George, who has two dogs and a cat, set aside the domain name, in the hopes of creating the site.
But it took web developer Gary Choronzy (ConnecticutWebsites.com), developer of sites including Ann Nyberg’s Network Connecticut (NetworkConnecticut.com) and Bruce Barber’s Real Life Survival Guide (RealLifeSurvivalGuide.com) to make it a reality.
While developing CTCondoNews.com for George, Gary noticed that George also owned the domain name ctpetlovers.com.
“’George,’ he asked one day, Why don’t we build it?” George explained he had to no idea on how to do it and Gary said, ‘Don’t worry. I do.’”
Gary poured his heart and soul into the site, and of course, made good use of his pal “Butch” a Hungarian Vizsla on the Facebook fan page. She is our mascot.
We plan on bringing an impressive team together to make CtPetLovers.com the go-to-place for those like us who believe our pets are more like children than animals.
To start, Kathleen Kiley, a 20-year journalist veteran, is the editor of the site. Gary, who is our developer, will also be our associate editor, helping to guide the site, fully integrating Facebook, twitter with CtPetLovers.com.
“Besides writing investigative and consumer stories, I will be in charge of the advertising until we have someone who could devote full time to providing marketing and advertising guidance,” George said.
CtPetLovers makes local advertising easy and effective by using zip codes and counties. The publisher is offering early advertisers a discount. For instance, small ads can be purchased for $25 for the first year. Ctpetlovers can also provide full-service marketing for larger businesses or those that wish to grow rapidly. As firm believers in transparency, all prospective advertisers will receive up-to-date metrics on CtPetLovers’ viewership.
“We’re very excited about this launch and want to hear from pet lovers around the state,” George said.

Happy Hallowe’en to all pet owners and non-pet owners alike. I hope that post-storm “Sandy” finds the H.C. Alumni/Refugee community safe and well and coping with whatever challenges have been thrown your way this time.
No trick, I wish only the best for all my friends and former colleagues.
As always, a special thanks to the Stern family for all that you do!
