Anniversary Follow-Up, Connie Remembered

The occasion of the Camp’s fourth anniversary brought a ton of nice comments from the far-flung ex-Courant family, so I thought I would share a few (in no particular order):

From…

David Lightman

Thanks so much for doing this…those of us down here in gridlock-land welcome the news about all our friends and co-workers. And don’t forget to call if you come down here.

Daryl Perch

Four more years! Your site is such a wonderful place to land every couple of weeks and keep track of all the doings at the Courant and share fond memories. It also renews faith that for many of us, there is life after journalism. Many thanks and much appreciation.

Michael Kodas

Thanks so much for putting the camp together and giving us a safe place for our virtual gathering. Now can you get an NGO to provide medical care and food?
I tried to send this note to the whole group, but my email server can’t handle the whole diaspora for some reason…
Cheers,
PS – Carolyn is now a videographer for the University of Colorado.
I’ve been working on my next book, which is about the global increase in wildfires, and covering the horrific fire season here in Colorado for a number of outlets. You can see some of my most recent stories at OnEarth, the I-News Network, and National Geographic News Watch.

Rob Weisman

Any plans for a Courant reunion?

Rachel Gottlieb

Happy Anniversary Refugee Camp. As a refugee, I love to hear everyone’s voices at the camp site and on Facebook. Sometimes it’s just snippets, like a quick gab in the elevator. But it’s a group of people that I care so much about and it’s meaningful to me that I can still feel everyone’s presence and see pictures and know how you’re doing

Thank you for being the thread that keeps us connected to each other.
And Colin, thank you for the column on Connie. You inspired me to dig some of her stories out of the online archives at the State Library. Two are attached. Calls Reflect Guman’s Losing Battle with Life (1) Stolen Silver Left at Courant
One is about her call with the gunman in East Hartford. He invited her to come into the house and see the bodies of his wife and son. She replied that she’d love to talk with him over coffee in the police cruiser. Ah Connie!

Colin McEnroe

Your email reminded me of my intention to write this story.

so many stories will slip away.  it would be great if people would share some of their really vivid memories of the past somewhere.  I hesitate to say “on your site” because it’s as if I’m volunteering you as an archivist.
but maybe i am.

Louise Galvin

Congratulations on the 4th anniversary…hard to believe, and thanks for keeping the light on for all of us who remember fondly that our worst day at the real Courant was far better than their best day now!

What a beautiful tribute to sweet, good Connie Neyer, Colin. Lovely. Stacy Wong shared her obituary with me as well as Ruth’s and I have been blowing kisses to heaven to both these wonderful ladies from Vermont…seems a bit closer.
