I am saddened to report the death of two fine journalists: Connie Neyer and Ruth Danckert. Both died Sunday.
My deepest condolences to Connie’s family and Ruth’s husband, Bill Lewis — another member of the Courant family.
Here’s a link to Ruth’s obituary. It details her long journalistic career. We knew her, of course, as a particularly particular copy editor.
Connie was much beloved in the newsroom and in Hartford for her column, City Lights. There was nowhere in the city she could go and not be recognized; and she was an institution when it came to raising turkeys at Thanksgiving through her “Needs and Deeds” column. Here’s her obituary… and another with her photo.
