Ex-staffers from the award-winning Hartford Courant, even without their former publication, continue to be award-winners.

Former sports writer David Heuschkel is the latest example. He recently won two SJP-CT chapter first-place awards for — of course — best sports feature and — go figure — best news photo.

“Yes,” he says, “part of working for a weekly publication means having to take pictures. But I’m especially proud of the photo award (October storm aftermath).  Either I have a hidden talent as a photo journalist or I was channeling my inner (insert any name of all the fabulous Courant photographers).”
