Tribune needs the FCC’s permission to continue its cross-ownership of TV stations and newspapers in the same market, including Hartford. Technically, the company will be under a new ownership when it emerges from bankruptcy.
The company filed the appropriate papers today, The Tribune reports.

I wonder, at this point, how they would ever unravel the FOX61/Courant knot if the FCC didn’t give an extension. They’re so physically entwined, The TV station and, as they see it, its pet newspaper, that if the permission is withdrawn someone would have to move. And mightn’t that effect, too, the admittedly day-dreaming hopes that some other ownership might take over the newspaper some happy day?
just wondering..
