Camp Season Approaches
With fewer employees to help support it than in years past, Camp Courant could use a boost. Here’s the latest for those of you who have some charitable giving funds to allocate:

| 500 Hartford Kids Need Our Help NOW! |
|
In recent years, due to significant and continuing cutbacks in public and private funding, Camp Courant has by necessity withdrawn funds from its reserve fund in order to continue saying ‘yes’ to all Hartford children who wanted to come to camp. This year, the camp’s reserve fund is depleted. That fact coupled with the downturn in the current economy has put Camp Courant in the position of balancing our budget by reducing services to Hartford children by half (or 50%) this summer.
This means that unless we can raise significant new funding before the summer, we will be forced to put approximately 500 children on a waiting list. That’s 500 Hartford children who will miss out on six weeks of fresh air, healthy recreation, educational and enrichment activities. A contribution of $750.00 provides for one child to attend Camp for the entire season.

Monies raised will be used to grant Camperships (or camp scholarships) to Hartford children.
It costs $25 per day, $125 per week and $750 per season to send one child to Camp Courant. Funds are allocated as follows:
Program supplies/materials $5
Counselors and medical staff $12
Transportation $5
Utilities and insurance $3
Total $25/day
x 30 days (6 weeks) = $750
Camp Courant is the only summer camp serving Hartford inner-city youth that provides transportation, preventative and acute health and social work services, two nutritious meals, and recreation, education and enriching activities all at no cost to the camper or his or her family.
Over half of the children we serve are at-risk and qualify for the federal free lunch program both at school and at camp. Camp Courant provides summer health and day care and social services, when such services are not available through the schools. All programs at camp are free to the children who attend camp each day.
During the summer of 2010, thanks to the generosity of our donors, Camp Courant will offer children:
– Six weeks of traditional camp experiences; swimming, playground, sports, and arts & crafts
– A variety of non-traditional ‘special’ camp activities such as:
- Computer Training
- Early Learning – School Readiness
- Healthy Choices – Let’s Move!
- Natural Sciences
- Youth Leadership Development
- Yoga
