I’ve been listening to the podcast from John Dankosky’s “Where We Live” show about the panel discussion at the Mark Twain House earlier this week.
I thought this little piece was illuminating about how the Internet and website metrics have changed the way newspeople make judgments about what stories to play, how to play them, where and when to play them.
As Courant Editor Naedine Hazell explains, it is a complicated dance and balancing act:
Some people may think so, but I don’t believe website metrics are the only factor in determining story play and reader interest. On the other hand, I’m sure they are informing and guiding editors in ways never imagined 10 or 2o years ago.
