Yet Another Job Opening

The Hartford Business Journal seeks an experienced writer to handle key responsibilities in our coverage of the capital region’s business community, both on line and in print. The ideal candidate will be able to produce breaking news for our website while handling enterprise, features and analysis for our print edition. We’re expanding a team that knows business news and can lead, not just compete. Tell us how you can help us get there. Extra points for photo and editing skills. Salary range: $35-45k. No relocation assistance available. Send cover letter and three writing samples to Editor Norm Bell at nbell@hartfordbusiness.com.

Here’s Bell’s internal memo to his staff:

Obviously we lost a lot of talent and institutional knowledge when Diane Weaver Dunne left. In many ways, she is irreplaceable.

However every exit is also an opportunity to reassess. In evaluating our needs, I’m convinced our top priority needs to be getting more hands producing content, both for the online and print products. So we’ll leave the managing editor title dark for the moment and focus on increasing the flow of copy. Once we’ve accomplished that, it’s reasonable to expect that the next hire would be an editor, perhaps a managing editor, when conditions permit.

But for now, we’re searching for a writer. Nominations/suggestions/referrals are welcome.
