The Courant/Fox family has been saddened by the sudden death of company finance official Bill Calhoun.
Below is a memo sent to employees yesterday by Rich Graziano, although email problems apparently caused some not to receive it. Also, there is funeral information at the bottom of the page.
Dear Colleagues,
It is with great sadness that I send this email to you to report the loss of our colleague William (Bill) Calhoun, who died unexpectedly at home yesterday from a heart attack. Bill, an accountant, was 47.
Bill joined the Finance department of the Hartford Courant in 1991 in accounting/payroll. He was well liked in his department and across the company, always chatting with colleagues about their families and sports. Bill was a passionate Red Sox, Giants, UConn football and UConn basketball fan. Recently, he took a trip with several friends in the Finance department to watch the UConn men play Providence, and they had a great time together.
Bill was a class act, a gentleman, a guy everyone liked to have around, a great husband and a great Dad. He leaves behind his wife Jessica and four young children: Liam, Caelyn, Alana and Rian. Our thoughts and prayers are with them.
Condolences may be sent to Bill’s wife Jessica Calhoun at 52 Pineridge Dr., Andover, CT 06232
Donations can also be made to the Calhoun Family Education Trust. More details to follow (in obituary).
Here is Bill’s obituary.
In addition, Bill’s family has invited all Courant/FOX employees to the funeral services at the church on Saturday, Feb. 27 at 10 a.m.

This is terribly sad to hear. I met Bill about 20 years ago. (If I remember correctly, he was a part-timer in the sports department was back then, taking calls from high school coaches and whatnot.) We played some basketball together, and I have seen him sporadically since. Like the memo says, Bill was always pleasant and friendly, and I can’t believe he’s gone.
I am so, so very sad to hear of Bill’s passing. My heart goes out to his beautiful family and to all of his friends. He was a jovial, friendly man and brought smiles to my days at the Courant.
