The Courant is still looking for a consumer reporter/columnist. Online ad.
Here’s the text:
Ground breaking three-platform journalist, reporting and writing three signed columns a week, a blog and reporting/writing/producing television reports on all consumer topics including airlines, health, retail, energy, housing, food, appliances, electronics, cars, insurance, computers and more. Reports must include information useful to consumers and actionable including web sites and telephone numbers.
This is a little odd, no? With legions of capable, competent, ethical and experienced reporters out of work all up and down the East Coast, not one acceptable applicant popped up the first time this job was advertised?
Of course, the history of consumer reporting at The Courant is a little dicey, and Tribune is bankrupt. But still, a reporting job is what you make of it mostly, no matter who is calling the shots. Granted, there is a TV component — so maybe the applicant needs to look good on camera. I guess that disqualifies about half the reporters I know, as it would me.

Maybe the person in charge of hiring is looking for a female watchdog….who looks good in tight sweaters.
