Tribune employees get one of these ethics memos every year, as I recall, and they also have a copy floating around on their intranet site; but it never hurts for the whole world to know that reporters may not keep any unsolicited gifts worth “more than a key chain.” I guess that’s why the LA Times put it online.
Ironically, most journalists have these principles deeply ingrained and don’t need a yearly memo to remind them. It’s their non-journalist bosses who seem most likely to slip.
Here’s the line I find most compelling: “Credibility is an indispensable asset…”
