A Good Way To Go Deep

David Funkhouser, former Northeast magazine staffer and environmental writer, is re-inventing and refining his journalism cred with a stint at the Columbia School of Journalism. He sends this:

I highly recommend the MA program at the journalism school for anyone interested in going deep, both in a field of their interest, and in journalism. I have had an incredible amount of stuff piled into my head in the past four months, and it’s been one of the most rewarding experiences of my life (and only half over).

It’s not easy. It’s not cheap. But there is financial aid in the form of both grants and loans available to help pay for it.

The MA program has four general concentrations: Science, business, politics, culture & arts. We’ve been learning from the best of the best here at CU. There are students in their 20s, 30s, 40s and 50s. More than half are from abroad. I would encourage anyone with a wisp of an idea about doing such a thing to contact me. Or go directly to:

– online application: www.journalism.columbia.edu/apply
– contact: Monica Burnette mnb2124@columbia.edu

Cheers, and happy holidays to all!

As nice as this recommendation is, investing more money to find a niche in an industry that is flat-out dying seems amazingly dumb. A better recommendation: Stop trying to get back into journalism and cherish new opportunities. You will thank yourself later.
