<description>I remember in the bad old days when Mark Willis was running the Times-Mirror empire into catastrophe that he came to visit. He made a huge deal about chasing the latino market insisting how important the upcoming cinco de mayo was. no one dared say, boo, if they knew to say, boo. so we had all this cinco de mayo stuff when that, of course is a mexican holiday which may be big in LA but not here. I was doing some do-gooder stuff with a latino AIDS group in those times and they would ask me why we thought the local puerto rican, etc population cared a bit about the mexicans -- whom they despised.
