Online News Project Moving Forward

The Connecticut News Project  being planned and staffed by a handful of former Courant heavyweights is on track for its debut at the beginning of next year.

Michael Regan, former assistant managing editor, reports that the fledgling online news service will soon be finalizing a name for its website and a logo in time for a January launch.

You may recall that the mission of this new, nonprofit outfit is to serve readers with in-depth news about Connecticut state government and state policy issues — something that has fallen into shorter supply since The Courant and other papers dramatically reduced their reporter ranks.

Regan is working with Mark Pazniokas, a longtime veteran of statehouse and political coverage (and fellow refugee), and also Bob Frahm, the former Courant reporter who set the standard for coverage of education in Connecticut.
With a gubernatorial election coming up, the state in fiscal crisis and the number of competing reporters at near-record lows, this bunch couldn’t have a better year to start. I’m guessing that once it’s up and running, its coverage will help set the agenda in the capitol and for the competing media.
I hope so, anyway.

This is a great lineup. I think they’ll be making their mark in no time.
