At first I thought some sort of art had accidentally fallen off the page, but then I realized that the huge white space on Page A11 was part of a coffee ad in the lower right hand corner of the page. The strange open space — that threaded between the news stories — was supposed to be the steam coming off the coffee. The ad made the point that coffee and a morning newspaper go together like, well, coffee and the morning newspaper.

I suppose purists would say that advertising material should not be interspersed with news content in such a way that the news has to wrap around, thus confusing the two. But one could argue that the paper is just being innovative and true to its primary purpose: making money from ads.
