A handful of former Courant journalists have finished their first assignments for The Prospect, a new magazine for Greater Hartford engineered by The Warren Group. The Prospect is the reincarnation of the Hartford Club’ newsletter and will be mailed to about 10,000 readers in the region at no charge.
Vince Valvo, once a Courant correspondent himself, is publisher and editor of the operation. He works in concert with Pat Sheehan, Hartford Club president and former Fox 61 anchor.
Six of the eight freelancers for the first issue are refugees or part-time refugees: Theresa Sullivan Barger, Larry Cohen, Carlos Cunha, Susan Schoenberger, Larry Smith and me. Former reporter and associate editorial page editor David Fink is featured in the book just for good measure.
Here’s a look at the cover — shot by Larry Smith along with many other photos in the edition.
And here, thanks to Valvo, is the entire magazine: TheProspect_PremierIssue2[1]

Congrats to Larry on his cover photo and to all of you for landing this work. I hope the magazine does well.
Are my eyes failing me, or does the cover headline read “Is There Capital in the Capital?”??????? Shouldn’t it be “in the Capitol”???
(I hope I’m wrong. I really want this to be a successful publication. Also, there are enuf out-of-work copy editors out there that flubs like this shouldn’t exist.)
I think the reference is to the capital, as in of the state, not the capitol, the building that houses the state legislature.
