Depressing Poll; Points Of Light

If this poll by Sacred Heart University is anywhere near accurate (and I’ve no reason to think otherwise), then the newspaper industry should not be counting on any kind of bailout from government. As reported by Editor and Publisher, four out of every five people polled would oppose using government money to save the industry. (Most people in the industry would, too, I suspect.)

Worst of all, most Americans think traditional quality journalism is dead.

(That may be true on a quantitative basis, but not qualitatively so as long as reporters like The Courant’s Jon Lender, Matt Kauffman, Dave and Daniela Altimari, Alaine Griffin, Ed Mahony, David Owens and many like them are on the job.)
