Robin Checks In

Robin Stansbury recently accepted a full-time offer from Aetna, in their corporate communications department. There, she writes daily stories for the company’s internal web site. She also works with a team handling crisis communications, wellness programs and issues related to health care reform. She works in Aetna’s Hartford office (just steps from The Courant, and is available for lunch dates!)

Her recommended reading for anyone searching for work after The Courant is here.

Here’s a highlight:
“You went to journalism school to learn how to tell a story in words and images. Yes, the employers who traditionally hired your skills are shrinking fast. But there is an entirely new world out there for you to consider. I’m not talking about PR and media relations here. This isn’t about writing press releases and trying to get your former colleagues to write or broadcast about you. Instead, I’m talking about creating stories as you are now but for a corporation, a government agency, a nonprofit, or an educational institution instead. You probably haven’t seriously considered that there are potential employers outside of media companies.Yes, there are new potential employers. And they need you and your skills-now. “
