On A Slain Colleague

This is the full text of the note Courant/Fox 61 CEO Rich Graziano sent Monday to employees following the horrible murder-suicide that claimed the life of Alice Morrin, Graziano’s executive assistant:

Dear colleagues,

Today is a very sad day. We are deeply troubled by the loss of our friend and colleague Alice Morrin.

Alice was smart, funny and kind with a caring heart. She touched the people she encountered with a unique quality of grace and class. She leaves behind two beautiful daughters, Erica and Shannon.

Alice was proud of so many of you, on air and behind the scenes. She regarded the Fox 61 newsroom as her family, a home away from home. In just one week it was equally apparent to the Hartford Courant staff that Alice was a true gem. Alice always had a kind word for everyone. In recent days, we spent some time together as she began her new job as my Executive Assistant. She shared with me her joy in parenting her daughters.

If any of you had children visit FOX 61 or the Hartford Courant, you know what I mean when I say she was a magnet for children. On Friday that was clear to me as Alice went above and beyond the job description of Executive Assistant and handled my eight-year-old boy Nicholas while I was speaking at a press conference at the Travelers Championship. On the way home, Nick said, “Alice is beautiful, can we see her again Dad?”

Details regarding funeral arrangements will be forthcoming. In addition, we are considering setting up a college fund for Erica and Shannon in memory of Alice.  Details on the fund will also be shared as soon as we can find out the family’s wishes.

Our thoughts and prayers are with them and Alice’s entire family. Words cannot begin to describe what Alice meant to the Tribune family. She is an angel looking down on us and her daughters. She will be truly missed.

Rich
