The trade journal Newspapers & Technology examines the NewsGate computer project that will soon link Tribune’s eight papers, including, of course, The Courant.
“This represents a different way of working for us,” Tribune’s Paul Mitnick was quoted as saying. “We will look like one very large newsroom instead of having a newsroom for every paper — and content can be shared more easily.”
There’s no definitive word on how this will affect staffing, a natural concern for anyone at Tribune these days.
“The nature of some jobs will change, but our goal is not an overall staff reduction — although I am not sure that won’t occur — as much as it is a staff allocation,” he said.
