Beijing Bound

Good news from our friend Jone Fulkerson, all-around terrific copy editor and a member of the Courant Class of 2008. We’ll let Jone pick up the story:

I will be a senior copy editor at China Daily, which is run by the government. The newspaper is trying to improve its journalism, and has been recruiting Western journalists to help them with this effort. They want me to “mentor” their Chinese reporters and help broaden and better focus their coverage of news. (They don’t have any journalism schools there.) The paper has journalists from Australia, Canada, Britain and the U.S., to name some of the places people apparently are from. I think the reporters are all Chinese nationals. The newspaper sent a recruiter on a sweep through this region — having interviews in Toronto, Washington (they flew me there for the interview), Dallas and San Francisco. I start working there in mid-June. I’m waiting for my visa.
