Closer To Assimilation

This piece about the use of  standardized news “modules” throughout Tribune’s so-called T6 papers is about as scary as it gets for any local copy editor who hopes to keep his or her job.

The piece is scary on so many levels… that it seems to betray a disinterest in quality journalism, the value and importance of good copy editing, local management, and good design… and that the managers asked about it by blogger Charles Apple all were afraid to talk.

I’m not sure about the sourcing on this piece, so how much, if any, is skewed by the source is impossible to say; but a lot of it certainly rings true when compared to what has already happened in Hartford at The Courant.  The BeyondCT pages are made in Chicago with no regard for the style of the rest of the paper.

The technological references to Newsgate also ring true, since we’ve known this universal system has been in the works for a long time. It will be the newest tool for the Borg to assimilate its satellite properties.
