I’m trying to figure out, by 5 p.m. today, whether to take the severance as a lump sum or a salary pay out. Our accountant doesn’t work on Fridays. I can’t get anyone from Human Resources at the Courant to tell me what, if any, tax implications there might be to taking it as a lump sum. Do any of my fellow former colleagues have any advice about this?
I’m doing this last minute because, well, I’ve been a little busy, what with the giving birth and having a premature baby in the NICU thing.

This is late, but I hope it helps. Our accountant told Loretta there is no tax implication for taking a lump sum.
