Proof Of Claim? Wha…?

This from Larry Williams:

Did everyone get “Proof of Claim” forms from the bankruptcy processing center? Were you as bewildered as I was. I received four, three blank and one that was filled in with a claim I didn’t know I had: $XXXX “unsecured, unliquidated.” I went to the Tribune website, to the retiree section and learned that this had nothing to do with my pension, which was a relief. According to the website, our pensions are “protected” by the rules of bankruptcy.

The page had a link (chapter11.epiqsystems.com/tribune) to the bankruptcy filings, where I found “Schedules/Statements filed: Sch A, Sch B, Sch C, Sch D, Sch E, Sch F, Sch G, Sch H, Sum of Schs, Decl Concerning Debtors Schs,. (The Hartford Courant Company, Case No. 08-13211). Filed by Tribune Company. (Stickles, J.)” That case number was the one on my claim.

Sure enough, Schedule F [ the_hartford_courant_company_final_schedules1] is a list of what appear to be everyone who took a buyout, each with an amount of money recorded as “reduction in force liability.” The figure for me corresponded to my claim form. So I guess I should submit the claim form with a printout of Schedule F as my “proof of claim.” Even though that’s giving the court a document it already has, there’s nothing else I have to offer. And if they do owe me money, I’d like to receive it, although I thought I’d received all of the promised amount.

Does anyone know any more about this?

I did, in fact, get three such forms, one of which had the number Larry refers to, and I, too, thought I had collected all I was going to collect and that I was owed. Maybe Gene Mazur could get us an answer on this.

I got the Proof Of Claim form Thursday. I expect I’ll be one of many calling Gene Mazur on Friday…

I don’t know whether this will affect anyone else, but when I searched the document for my name, I found two references, but not the one with the dollar amount attached. I only came upon that one accidentally.
