The Courant/Fox61 combine isn’t missing out on a chance to cash in on Huskymania. (The UConn basketball program has always been a major part of the Connecticut Media Stimulus Package.) The paper and TV station will be all over Sunday’s victory parade in Hartford like… well, like the other estimated 10,000 to 15,000 fans expected there.
Publisher Rich Graziano has sent out a memo to all staff recruiting them to hand out copies of Thursdays commemorative section along the parade route. There will be coverage up the Wazoo, of course. The company is a sponsor of the event, too.
Here’s are a couple excerpts from Graziano’s memo (and I gotta say, this guy is way more communicative than his predecessor):
Hartford’s streets will be alive this Sunday, April 19 with screaming fans celebrating the national champion Huskies as they are honored with a parade at 3 p.m. Fox 61 and the Hartford Courant will be in the thick of it as we broadcast live from the parade as well as hand out 5,000 copies of this Thursday’s commemorative section and a cheer card. Distributing these copies is no small task so we are asking for volunteers to assist on parade day. Volunteers will need to arrive early and can either walk in the parade with a carrier bag alongside a Courant truck, or hand out copies at a parked truck along the route. After the parade ends, a rally will be held at the Capitol building where the remainder of copies will be taken to be distributed.
The Courant and Fox 61 are official media sponsors of the parade and will be in it. Staff volunteers and Fox 61 talent will be walking in the parade. We will have the UCONN special section and cheer cards to distribute to the crowd as we proceed along the parade route. Parade line up will be at 2p at the Corner of Trinity and Capitol Ave near The Bushnell.
