Lender’s Protege Makes Good.

An email to report:

I just stumbled on a web page for a Hartford Courant alumni association. Good heavens, I used to work there, but many years ago, from 1976 to early 1981. (I used to say, “I worked for the Hartford Courant for four years, eight months and 11 days, but who’s counting?”) I guess I must be getting old because I see names of people on your alumni list who I would guess are children of my contemporaries (Joe O’Brien Jr., Garrett Condon). The vast majority of names mentioned on your site are not known to me, my having long preceded them.

I used to work in the Middletown bureau under Jon Lender, with whom I’ve corresponded on a periodic basis. I see from the picture that he hasn’t changed a bit, and I hear that he has become a major reporter in Hartford!

I am now a contributing editor at Conde Nast Portfolio, so I am well acquainted with the whole layoff and downsizing thing.

Best,
Gary Weiss
