She’s Being Enhanced

One of our refugees (I won’t say who, so the DOL doesn’t audit her) has a question:

Have any of you been ordered to attend an “Enhanced Re-employment Services” porgram at the state Department of Labor?
I have, and it’s mandatory if I want to continue collecting unemployment. It’s on April 16.
It’s too bad since I”ve already got the career services paid for by The Courant and there have to be people who need more help than me out there.
I was wondering if any of you are going or have gone to one of these, so I could hear what it’s like.

Editor’s note: I think this is like being called to jury duty. Just dumb luck. I can’t imagine the state could enhance all of us poor souls who are unemployed. Anybody know anything?

I also got this letter and know nothing more about it. I’m thinking it’s probably some new program, and we’re the guinea pigs.

I got one for a session scheduled on 4/14. I know nothing more about it than you do, but I am going to call to see if I can change the date. That’s school vacation week in West Hartford and, with Lil home all week, that day is out. I’ll see what more I can find out and report back.

I went to one of these sessions today. The people were smart and friendly, but the services they provide duplicate what we’re already getting from Right Management (only the state employees have a bigger caseload, I’m sure.) I do think this could help people by providing counselors to turn to after our Right Management time runs out. I asked why some of us got ordered to attend one of these sessions and others did not and was told that the state labor department will probably catch up with most of us laid off in late February – sooner or later.
