How many Courant employees will be laid off to get the funds for Steve Carver’s buyout?

Why doesn’t the Courant combine operations with the Connecticut Resource Recovery Authority? The two operations could be consolidated into one safe, modern landfill. Newsprint would be shipped directly to the on-site waste management facility, eliminating the costly intermediary steps of reporting, editing and delivery. It’s an environmentally sound solution for the problems facing the newspaper, and cutbacks have been slowly leading in this direction for some time. Why not hasten the process? The patchwork of cutbacks could be replaced with one efficient, state-of-the-art dump.
