Water Cooler Report

It wasn’t literally around the water cooler, but an important byproduct of Jeanne Leblanc’s Geek Seminar Thursday was an update on the lives of many of the people who showed up … or ex-Courant people they know.

For instance:

Adele Angle has reportedly landed a job — at least a temporary one — at the Travelers as a kind of news aggregator or condenser or summarizer, if I get it straight. (Adele, feel free to correct me.)

Dave Drury took the U.S. Census Bureau test recently and got hired as a “numerator.” He hasn’t started counting  people yet.

Jerry Lepore is working on turning his expertise on and enormous  collection of 45 rpm records into a small business.

Steve Wilder has been doing some freelancing.

Steve Courtney has reportedly gotten a job as a tour guide at the Mark Twain House. (Steve has written a book on Twain’s best friend and possesses a huge insight into Twain’s world. There’s a link to his website on the right rail.)

Former Managing Editor Claude Albert was to host moderate a panel discussion for a Journalism School for Judges later in the day.

and Vivian Dennis is studing computer science in college, including Photoshop.

In this same vein, former copy editor Mary Jo Ross (Kochakian at the time) reports on her progress since leaving the Courant in 2003.

I needed to find a new line of work. I started grad school at Southern Ct State U in 2004. I finished in 2007, and immediately found both a full-time and a part-time job. My master’s is in marriage and family therapy. My full-time job is in the state court system. My part-time is at a community behavioral health clinic.

In this new line, I see opportunities for career-shifting which previously I was completely unaware of.

If you have water cooler news, send it along.
