Geek Seminar Revisited

Nearly 30 ex-Courant employees  (and a few still working) showed up today for Jeanne Leblanc’s Geek 101 seminar — an overview of what every modern journalist needs to know in order to succed in the online media world.

With help from former copy editor Tom Twitchell and Polly Edwards, the computer wiz from the ad side of Courant.com, Jeanne gave the refugees  a thorough run-down of the full range of skills and training they might find useful for new jobs or new publishing ventures of their own. She covered everything from content management systems, to Photoshop, to HTML and blogs. You can review her slides as you need, and I’m suspect she would be willing to answer questions if / when you have any.

It was clear from the quality of the event that Jeanne put a lot of effort and time into her presentation. She didn’t say so, but I’m pretty sure it’s indicative of how much she cares for the welfare of her former co-workers.  Thanks, Jeanne, once again.

(I also like this quote from Thomas Jefferson she includes on the Geek 101 site: “Information is the currency of democracy.”)

And hurray for those who kept us fed and watered: Paul Stern, Linda Giuca, Loretta Waldman, Robin Stansbury and Ted Funsten.

  2. 2 Tom

I had a great time this morning. I learned a lot listening to Jeanne and Polly (I’m all fired up to get back into Joomla), and I loved seeing all my Courant friends.
