Unemployment is like an ailment in itself. But we carry on, rousing ourselves from our beds (while we still have beds), take our medicine and read our morning Courant online. The forward-thinking Courant accelerated the move to online newspapers by laying off many of its reporters and editors and canceling their subscriptions.
There are lots of fun puzzles you can enjoy in the online version of the newspaper. One of them is navigating through the assortment of confusing menus to anything you’d like to read. Try to find the columnists today, for example. They seem to have vanished from the site’s front page. (Another round of layoffs? A walk-off to protest the ban on writing about the cutbacks?) If you’re determined to read today’s columns, you can enter the site’s maze and search — endlessly and fruitlessly. The future is online, hidden somewhere behind all the menus and ads.
