The late Gerry Renner, a scholar, masterful writer and superb investitgator for the Courant, spent countless days documenting the monstrous misdeeds of the Rev. Marcial Maciel Degollado, leader of a Hartford-based cult that operated inside the Catholic Church with the protection of the Pope.
Gerry took a lot of heat for his exstensive reporting, (here’s a taste) which the Church spent a lot of time dismissing and denying.
Bernie Davidow points out that today’s New York Times story about Degollado verifies everything that Renner ever wrote, (with help from Stephanie Summers.)
Renner and another journalist named Jason Berry were worked over but good by writer Richard John Neuhaus, as this item explains.
If I believed there were a Heaven, I’d expect Renner to be there chuckling over this.
Father Maciel, who died a year ago, is most likely roasting in someplace a lot further south than his native Mexico.

To anyone who has not read Jerry’s book, written with Jason Berry, you are missing a great read.
