The LA Times is cutting staff again, this time taking an estimated 70 jobs out of its news department.
The signs of additional financial distress are industrywide, and there doesn’t appear to be any upturn in sight.
The good news, if you can call it that, is at the end of the LA Times story linked above. It talks about the severance plan needing approval from the bankruptcy court. That at least implies there is one.
It will be interesting to see what creditors think about the severance subject. Or what the court does. Tribune can at least pretend to be generous and propose something that might help the workers. The court and creditors will have to decide whether they want to put on the black hats.
